With over a decade of experience, Dr Howat is on the specialist register and has dedicated much of her career to helping people manage complex weight issues and improve their overall health. Since 2020, she has been the Lead Clinician for the Lanarkshire Weight Management Service, a service she was instrumental in establishing and launching. Under her leadership, the team pioneered Scotland’s first regional agreement for the use of pharmacotherapy in weight management, setting a benchmark for evidence-based, patient-centred care.

Her work extends beyond the clinic. Dr Howat has contributed to numerous international clinical research trials in both diabetes and weight management, ensuring her practice is guided by the latest science and innovation. She is also a valued member of Scottish Government consultation groups, advising on pharmacotherapies for weight management and strategies for reducing metabolic risk across the population.

Dr Howat holds an MBChB, MRCP, and CCST (board certification in Diabetes and Endocrinology), is SCOPE certified by the World Obesity Federation, and has a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Nutrition.
